MARC BOLAND

CHAIRMAN

I was born and raised in California until I joined the  United States Air Force.  I learned a trade as an optometric technician.  I have been doing optically related work ever since and I'm a licensed optician in the State of Florida.   I am married with two boys.  My hobbies include reading, home brewing beer and meads.

WHAT DOES BEING INVOLVED WITH BEERWORKS MEAN TO YOU?

I love the fact that we created a charity out of one of my passions, craft beer.  And that we were able to put on an a event and give back to the local community.  That we have grown and are now able to put on multiple events so that we can give even more to local charities.

GERRY SOLORZANO

CREATIVE DIRECTOR

I fancy myself as a Bon Vivant. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, which stands as one of the most distinguished art schools in the country. And while my focus in art school was traditional Painting and Printmaking, I am well disciplined in Design concepts and Digital Media. I have engaged in home brewing for the last seven years, four of which have been devoted to competitive home brewing. I find that creativity transcends the canvas, even the screen. It is also a palpable virtue that can be shared and appreciated in a snifter or pint glass. My other interests (in no particular order) include: Fencing, Golf, Diving, Travel, Cigars, Fishing, and dressing in "Sea Dog" garb for special events....Arrr!

WHAT DOES BEING INVOLVED WITH BEERWORKS MEAN TO YOU?

First and paramount, a chance to showcase my talents as a freelance digital media artist while aiding a noble cause. And as a competitive home brewer and "Beer Geek", a platform to elevate a hobby in such a way that it makes a difference in the community: serving more than beer.

MARK CARBONE

TREASURER / BOARD MEMBER

I have been involved in the 'beer world' since I was a little kid stealing sips of Ballantine Ale (the first American IPA by the way), from my dad's tin can of beer.  I have been a member of the Treasure Coast BrewMasters since the late nineteen hundreds, and a BJCP judge since 2006.  Presently I own Vine & Barley Stuart; the best 'Wine Tasting & Craft Beer Lounge' this side of the Rio Grande (but I'm a bit biased when it comes right down to it).

WHAT DOES BEING INVOLVED WITH BEERWORKS MEAN TO YOU?

We get to enjoy the fruits of our labor, and give back to our 'local' community at the same time.  How cool is THAT?!

MENDY SOLORZANO

River of Beers

I am married to a self-proclaimed "beer-geek" which is how I started getting involved in BeerWorks. I felt a sense of community when I heard about the charities and saw all the hard work from the board and volunteers. As for myself, I am an avid traveler and own a travel agency. I am a lover of animals and feel my best when I give to those that need it most.

WHAT DOES BEING INVOLVED WITH BEERWORKS MEAN TO YOU?

An ability to help our community.

MELANIE WHITNEY

CO-CHAIR / VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

It was several years ago shortly after a wonderful restaurant opened up having over 100 beers on draft and they served beers by the yard I got to start experimenting and tasting the variety of craft beers that came out.  Myself starting off as a server and a bartender to running a chain restaurant as a GM and having 13 years restaurant experience it was a great opportunity to get to know others more involved in the Craft Beer scene where a local craft beer bar, The Vine & Barley opened just down the road from where I live.  From there it allowed for a great location to create great relationships and watch the craft beer scene in Treasure Coast expand to other craft beer bar locations, gastropubs, and now local breweries.  Through these relationships Ive changed occupations getting to sell craft beer around the Treasure Coast and most importantly I got to gain a second family in the group that created the local craft beer scene and Beerworks Charitable Foundation breaking ground with the Treasure Coast Beer Fest and have gone from being the volunteer coordinator to Co-Chair of the foundation.  Its been a fascinating experience to see how the original group started it all in a parking garage to now on the 10th year.  Its a crazy ride but in the end its all worth it for the charities we support! As I always say... "Craft Beer People are Great People!"

WHAT DOES BEING INVOLVED WITH BEERWORKS MEAN TO YOU?

Ive always been impressed by a group of every day craft beer lovers going the extra mile to have a beer fest in their own town.  What better way to raise money for local charities and teaching others about craft beer!
